Environmental Analysis

Following my reading of the hefty case study I have been able to come up with the following issues as being the ones that are describing the relationship that exists between the hardware and the IT department (Baldoni, 2009). The principal issues that are making hefty hardware unable to reach the development potential it can include:
·         The corporate disconnection from the retail sector
·         Poor definition of the goals as well as values for the business
·         The failure to have a platform for sharing the available knowledge
·         The value associated with the available data is not realized
·         The understaffing of the CIO is making the department fail to attain the full productive capacity
·         The prevalent poor communication
·         Absence of integration of both the business and the IT departments
·         The lack of training of the steering committee
·         The prevalent politics in the context of the cases of disrespect
·         Poor planning and time management

The reading makes it very clear that as a result of the communication issues between the IT and the business, there is no connection existing between the various departments and the IT. The to creation of the effective relation between the business and the IT department, it is prevalent that the four fundamental blocks should be reinforced. These foundation blocks should include credibility, competence, trust as well as the interpersonal interactions that are not evident in the departments at hefty hardware (Frier & Stone, 2014). Additionally the business manager holds that the people in the IT department do not possess the adequate competence to be in a position to identify the necessary solutions to the business problems. The position held as being normal in the sense that the IT department does not possess the adequate specialization relating to the business processes as well as goals at hefty hardware (CIO, 2014).
The relationship between these departments is indicative of no value for the business as they are deleterious to any form of development of the business. There exist no plans to integrate the functionalities of the business and IT towards the development of the business success. Additionally the existence of poor communication in the hardware is making it very difficult for production decisions to attain. The prevalent politics between the IT and business departments are additionally making it improbable for decisions directed at improving the company to generate. For instance, Gutierez who is the IT marketing manager does not have any comprehension relating to the technical terms making it very difficult to market the department adequately (Nelson & Alok, 2013).
Interpersonal interactions that are a basic requirement for the creation of efficient working relationships between the IT, as well as the other business departments, are nonexistent at hefty hardware. The problem exacerbates because meetings normally failed for the reason that the IT fail to comprehend the business talk along with the fact that they are not ready to understand. Conversely, the businesses managers fail to comprehend the technical talk on the occasion the IT begin to explain the technical aspects’ of the solutions. Hefty hardware has failed to establish to develop a solid foundation as well as the effective relationship between business and the IT departments and makes it the basic issue that hefty should deal with in the first place (Avanade, 2014). In the event that Hardy manages to solve the problem, it will be able to ensure that they are present, as well as the future projects is a success. Additionally it is imperative that the IT spend invest enough time in explaining their plans to support the business functions as well as ensure they work for the attainment of the organizational objectives (Mckeen & Smith, 2012).
Additionally the available business objectives such as reliability cost effectiveness as well as the business improvement plans are resulting in a dilemma as a result of poor planning and budgeting. The resultant cause of the inefficiency in planning is because the IT department has a very poor working relationship with the rest of the business along with their failure to react effectively to the business propositions. The fact that the IT departments is sending their junior staff in the meeting and characterized their inability to explain the technical issues displays their lack of commitment to addressing the business needs (Mugge, 2014). Additionally the IT department is making the situation worse as a result of their failure to meet the business deadlines as well as the inability to know of the functionalities of the various hefty stores.
The lack of communication is making it impossible for the business executives to engage in any form of sharing. The presence of information sharing would help in the attaining of a common objective that will aid the organization in being productive as well as efficient. The suggestion that Mr. Vogel make is very good in having two executives from the IT and business departments traveling together assist will improve the relation between the two departments. Additionally it will make better the comprehension of the organizational objectives and consequently present them with an opportunity of assessing the operations of the various departments at hefty (Mckeen & Smith, 2012).
The IT and the business can work effectively through the development and modification of the present business goals and models. Through the recreation of the business goals and models, hefty will be in a position to give leadership to the best leaders. Additionally the involvement of these leaders in the operations of the business will ensure that the business objectives realized. Additionally the strengthening of the communication between the various departments in the business will assist in ensuring that the entire team is working towards the attainment of their objectives (Nelson & Alok, 2013) The realization of effectiveness in communication will be through adequate training and reinforcing the relationships between the departments. The attainment of the above objectives is through:
Ensuring that there are regular weekly meeting for all the departments in the business is meant to address the issues that each department is experiencing. Through these regular weekly meetings, the communication between the departments will be strengthened along with the reduction in the negative political differences. Hiring additional IT employees will alleviate the problem of understaffing the CIO and consequently assist the ability to design new systems for the business. As a result, the productivity of the business will go up due to the availability of the adequate systems that support the production processes (Frier & Stone, 2014).
The business and IT employees should train on the necessary communication skills through the adoption of liaisons between the departments. Additionally through the training, it will be possible for the employees on both sides to aware of the new standards meant to address their communication capacities. Proper management of time should additionally be the other factor championed in the business by encouraging the IT departments always to plan their IT implementation schedules. Additionally the foundations they rely on to fix their internal issues should be done in time to be able to manage any forthcoming challenges effectively ((Baldoni, 2009). The business needs to adopt research strategies to focus on the contemporary industry and market trends to increase their competitive edge in the industry. Through the research, they will be able to design the most productive technology as well as processes that will work to their advantage as well as creating the best competitive advantage for hefty hardware.
With the objective of addressing the communication challenges due to the technical jargons, the departments should rely on the utilization of visual representations of the new strategies. The creation of charts and presentations will assist in explaining the technical values as well as concepts thus ensuring that all the departments are on the same level about their productivities. The steering committee should additionally trained with the objective of ensuring that all the managers are well versed relating to the development of the projects (Nelson & Alok, 2013). The importance of these elements is that there is going to be effectiveness in the oversight role of these committees thus ensuring that all the productive measures realized. The management of hefty should guarantee that the execution of the business projects utilizes the diversity available in the departments. The innovation team at the business should generate from all the departments in the business. Through this approach, it will be possible to create a unitary integrated approach about the business values as well as goals for the project. The resultant impact is that there is going to be a reduction in the communication challenges in the business and consequently develop the teamwork thus improving the productivity (Frier & Stone, 2014).
