Introduction
Over the past
years technology has emerged
to play a great role in human life.
It is a new phenomenon. Technology has impacted
on every action of human being. The
human race is affected both positively
and negatively. On a positive
note, technology has improved
the methods and techniques used
to produce industrial goods. Improvement in such methods and
technology has had improvement
in quality of life.
Technology has also gone on
to impact negative on human actions. The
major adverse is the decline in typical
human behaviors.
Technological development
needs
Technology has both bright and dark
futures. Something, therefore,
needs to be done to brighten the dark
side of this beautiful human invention.
Technology development alignment
with customer needs. There is
a need for vibrant
applied research in customers’ needs to go along with technological development.
Technology development and research regarding customer needs happens
on a separate track. Researchers argue
that the separation
will help to avoid risks and time
until when the technology is ready for deployment. It should be made a tradition determine customers’ needs for
a proposed deployment of technology development.
At the same time, essential customer
needs will have been met (Ihde, 2002)
There is a need for ethics to steer
technology development. Let
us take an example of the internet as a modern technology
development. One is bound to find everything on the internet.
There is an equal amount of negative influence as a decisive influence. Very few people
have a detailed picture of this particular
problem. Those who know about the
existence of the problem want to make
money from the problem. They don’t
care. Although the government knows,
it wishes to take advantage of the problem for
their power. There are confusion
and problems about the needs of this
issue. Besides the spread of negative items on the internet, hacking takes a center stage.
According to Sadler (2013), ethics
is a comprehensive code of conduct. Every field
has its code of conduct. People say that
technology does not possess
its ethical qualities because it is just
a tool of production. There
is technology ethics. If
there is no ethics in
technology, they should be set
out. Technology standards need
to be straightened to address
those specific questions (Tavani, 2007)
Technology development should be
an essential tool that addresses equity and
common good. Common good is a particular
right that is shared in all people and
benefits all of them while equity is the
quality associated with being fair and
impartial (Dickenson, 2013). Technology development should strive to address those needs.
The goal and
method of any technology development should be well set. The men
of Babel applied the
technology of architecture so
that they could make a famous name
for themselves. They thought that they
could achieve a measure of social cohesion, hence
common good. But they were
wrong. It is the same situation
with the modern technology development. Many people are developing technology for their sake and
make a name for themselves. Porteous (1983) points
out that common good should guide their actions in development
Conclusion
To make the
above cases a reality; they should have a place in ethics
of technology. By incorporation, they
will become part and parcel of any
research. Being part of a research, we will have steered
efforts thereby ensuring research meets the needs.
